The GRN enclosure has been designed as a cost-effective junction box for use in hazardous areas. There are a variety of terminal and input configurations available, providing a versatile enclosure that is suitable for a wide variety of installations.
The enclosure is manufactured in UL-approved UV-stabilised polycarbonate and is available as a pre-assembled terminal box or as an empty enclosure for OEM applications. It can be supplied with optional terminal block, internal chassis plate or directly mounted terminals for cables up to 4 kV.
The GRN8 is a competitive product for low-risk applications in both safe and hazardous areas. It is designed to operate in an ambient temperature range of -20°C to + 40°C, but for non-hazardous applications the upper ambient temperature range can be extended to + 90°C.
Polycarbonate is resistant to ultraviolet radiation, resistant to various chemicals. The use of silicone rubber lid gasket and 316 stainless steel lid retainers ensures that the chemical resistance of the GRN is not compromised. Earthing can be carried out in various ways. Provision of internal/external grounding/earthing is optional, or one of the terminals can be assigned to the grounding/earthing function.
It is also possible to install an earthing rod inside the box, which can be used to terminate and connect as many earthing conductors as possible, as cable glands are available. This method is useful for equipotential bonding of metal cable glands, and an additional equipotential wire can be bonded to the internal/external ground stud to facilitate a positive connection to the “factory dirty” ground system. Alternatively, the ground rod can be used as a clean appliance ground as it can be electrically isolated from the dirty ground.
