Typical pipe heating system installation units
Typical pipe heating installation units are required for the correct installation of the cable system.
The heating cable must be laid along the pipe according to the thermal calculation. The spiral heating cable shall be laid spirally only on the basis of the project.
To ensure good heat transfer from the heating cable to the pipe, the heating cable must be tight against the pipe.
The heating cable can only be cut once it has been completely laid along and secured to the pipeline.
An additional approx. 0.5 metres of heating cable must be provided for connections, branching and terminations.

The heating cable is fixed with adhesive tape at least every 200 mm. When using cable adhesive tape, pay attention to its heat and chemical resistance. Never use PVC insulation or adhesive tape containing PVC or vinyl chloride. If aluminium tape is applied to the heating cable, the heating cable’s thermal capacity and heat distribution will be increased.

Lay the heating cable along the pipework at the locations corresponding to the points on the hour dial around “4h 30 min” and “7h 30 min”. If the pipework is horizontal, do not lay the cable at the lowest point. If the pipework is horizontal, do not lay the heating cable in the upper half of the pipe, as laying the heating cable in the upper half of the pipe is disadvantageous for heat distribution reasons and only makes sense in certain cases.

When installing the heating cable, observe the minimum permissible bending radius specified in the cable specifications. Bending the heating cable at an acute angle is not permitted! Lay the heating cable along fittings, valves, etc., so that they are easily accessible during repair and maintenance and can be replaced at any time without cutting the heating cable. The easiest way to achieve this is to loop the cable. Due to the increased heat loss at fittings, valves, etc., the cable length increases accordingly. These data can be taken from the project.

In addition to the heating cable, the following components are required for complete installation of the heating circuit:
- connection of the heating cable;
- supply cables;
- heating cable termination;
- fixing accessories for the heating cable;
- passages through the thermal insulation;
- warning labels “Caution electric heating”.
Additionally, you may also need:
- heating cable connection;
- T-connection for heating cable;
- connection box / T-branch box;
- mounting bracket and mounting plate for connection box or T-branch box;
- control devices.
