WI-FI data transmission in zone 1

Launched at the end of 2018, BARTEC’s Wireless X is a revolutionary new Wi-Fi product that offers unprecedented advantages in terms of coverage, size and weight compared to legacy solutions.

The Wireless X is used in many industries and locations around the world, thanks to its IECEx and ATEX Zone 1 certification, as well as several local certifications, including INMETRO for Brazil. Today, thousands of devices are being delivered and installed in plants and rigs, ships and processing plants, both onshore and offshore. The aluminium version of Wireless X is deployed in some of the leading Fortune 500 pharmaceutical companies’ plants worldwide, as well as onboard offshore and installations in the Gulf of Mexico, North Sea and Africa. The latest version, a stainless steel version, will soon be deployed in the North Sea.

Why do these customers use it?

There are many reasons why our customers have chosen Wireless X. In some use cases, its light weight and small size have opened up new installation possibilities in industrial areas where traditional fencing takes up too much space or would be too difficult to install and maintain due to its bulky design and heavy weight. The Wireless X can be installed almost anywhere thanks to its low weight and size and innovative mounting options.

Other customers chose Wireless X because they found it to be more or less maintenance-free.No external antenna means fewer cable entries and less equipment that is otherwise prone to damage and wear. With the cemented joint protection method, the device is fully protected internally and inspection and maintenance is minimal.

“Coverage does not cause any major disruption, the biggest SNR impact is mainly in the 2.4 GHz band, in fact, there is a benefit to 2.4 GHz compared to no coverage”

– Jerrod Howard, Distinguished Technologist at Aruba Networks

The above quote is from a test conducted by Aruba Networks. In complicated terms, this describes that the Wireless X dome does not adversely affect the wireless signals transmitted by a device (e.g. WiFi access point) inside it. The report from which the price offer is taken can be downloaded here.

The RF transparent dome means that a standard enterprise-class Wi-Fi access point or other wireless devices can be deployed and used in the same way as in conventional hazardous environments. After having to rely on wireless devices specifically designed for hazardous areas or requiring the use of external antennas, many customers appreciate the opportunity that Wireless X provides: using the same equipment, such as Cisco or Aruba, in hazardous areas as they do throughout the rest of their organisation.

While Wireless X has several other benefits, most of our customers have chosen Wireless X for the reasons mentioned above, or most likely a combination of all of the above.
